LINKS TO SITES ON SORING

Please take some time to check out these sites and educate yourself on the

ugly truth about what goes on in some elements of the show world. (click the name to get to the websites)

Check out this book by Karen Clark.

Making the Gait: Abuse and Corruption in the Tennessee Walking Horse Industry, is the true story

of the sored Tennessee Walking Horse. Chemically burned and tortured for the last six decades,

the high-stepping Tennessee Walking Horse show horse has suffered too much, for too long. In the

name of competition, sore-horse trainers are willing to experiment with any form of abuse to produce

the coveted Big Lick; to make the gait. Making the Gait tells the story of the sore Tennessee

Walking  Horse through messages of hope. These are stories about horses that have been saved,

and about people who courageously stand up to the intimidation of the Tennessee Mafia.

This article is courtesy of The Gaited Horse magazine. This is an educational article on soring of show horses. Many people have no idea this still happens in today's world, but sadly it does continue. Read the article and see what you can do to put on political pressure to end this travesity.

This site has some graphic photos of what a sored horse looks like. There is a lot of information on this site on the chemicals that are used to sore horses, as well as what you can do to help these horses.

This is the ASPCA website and it has an excellent article titled "Sore Winners" written by Dr. Andrew Lang.

http://www.fosh.info/

FOSH keeps a current list of violators of the Horse Protection Act. Check it out and keep yourself informed. Why do business with people who think it's okay to torment horses for profit?

This website has the article titled "Why Soring Persists" that was published in the Equus magazine.

This is an interesting article on the soring of show walking horses

http://www.horsechannel.com/horse-news/2008/07/24/analysis-finds-soring.aspx

Interesting article from FOSH (Friends of the Sound Horse) regarding the violations among the people chosen to judge the 2008 Celebration. When the defenders of the sore lick horse say industry has cleaned up its act, it's not true!

Friends of the Sound Horse

FOSH is working hard for the betterment of all gaited breeds. Also, from this website you can access the list of Horse Protection Act  violators.

Canadian Walking Horse News

This website is dedicated to the plain shod Walking Horse in Canada.  Walking Horse News is a great magazine that's been in publication for 27 years. One of the articles featured is the "From Foundations to the Future"  series by Franne Brandon.

Walking Horse Journal

This is a good magazine promoting the flatshod using horses. Great stories from every day people and trainers!

Pleasure Gaits Tennessee Walking Horses

Sandra van den Hof is one of the few TWH breeders in Europe. She is keen on promoting the breed all over the European continent. Based in Belgium, Sandra promotes, imports, breeds, trains, and sells Tennessee Walking Horses with old bloodlines for what they are originally bred for.

Barn Cams

If you are a breeder and need a barn camera to keep an eye on those mares as they get close to foaling time, check out this site. The cameras are reasonably priced, easy to install, and Bill & Susan are great to work with! If it hadn't been for one of these cameras, I would have lost a foal.

S&D Stables - Scott and Dena Plendl

Scott and Dena are located in western Iowa near LeMars. Dena grew up with  Walking Horses in Washington State and showed for her Aunt, Bobbie Clark. Dena and Scott presently breed and raise Quarter Horses on their farm. Dena's roots are still with Walkers and she is taking in horses for training. She is a sound trainer and I'm very pleased with the results of her work with King  so far.

Laurindale Stables

Laurindale Stables, Laurie & Dale Innocent, is located in Alberta Canada. If you're ever in Central Alberta, stop in for a visit-- the coffee is always on.
